Your camera does matter.

I started to shoot with the good old D30, now I shoot with a 1ds II.Do I see differences? Yes. Would I be able to shoot the same images with the D30 ? Some, sure, my book still has prints coming from that camera.Other images, surely not.Would I be able to shoot the same images years ago prior to the experience with the 1ds II in my hand ? Not at all, there is no magic box camera doing the job for you. I shot concerts with the 1ds II and 70-200 2.8 IS and got some images I would never have gotten with old material lacking that kind of AF tracking and image stabilization. With some shots it will not r-e-a-l-l-y matter what level of camera you use, with others, it certainly will, and for some, you need the 'best', certainly if your job depends on it.
I agree with :
"One of the most annoying questions on the web is seen when someone on a forum asks – Should I get a Whatsiflex or a Thingabobblad? Which is better? The problem is not with the questions. The problem is the answers!
This often innocent query unleashes not only the dogs of war, but the clowns of cliche as well. Among the fan boys rallying for their favourite brand there are bound to be at least a couple of bright sparks who write – "It's not the camera, it's the photographer", or some similar pithy aphorism.
One can't build a modern house with a stone axe, and a doctor can't do surgery without a finely honed scalpel."
