More diffusion results in less contrast.

More diffusion results in less contrast.

"The concept of diffusing light to control image contrast is the focus of this lesson. This is where the birth of the soft box came from. By controlling the raw light with a large fabric reflector then applying levels of diffusion material inside, this reflector gave photographers a level of control, portability and convenience unheard of in the past."

"You can take several avenues in applying this concept to your images. In this lesson, we will look at the soft box in all its configurations and explain how and why this concept works so well, then take it a few steps farther. We will apply secondary diffusion in front of the soft box to further control the contrast range."
