I normally talk about the importance of using a flash when taking shots into the sun to give sufficient light to add features to your subject but there are also times when making your subject featureless apart from their outline against a bright background can be most effective - or when in other words silhouette is a worth exploring.

For most of you that own a DSRL, you’ll have a built in flash to help you light your subject. So why, oh why would you even bother spending your hard earned cash on another flash that goes right on top of the one you’re used to using? Isn’t it overkill?

Nikon Europe today announced the opening date for the Nikon Photo Contest International 2008-2009. This year is the 32nd edition of the hugely-popular contest that last time attracted over 16,000 entrants from 135 different countries and the submission of more than 47,000 images.
Entries for the competition will be accepted from 1 September to 30 November 2008. The theme for the competition is At the Heart of the Image, which is also the brand statement of the Nikon Imaging Company.
