Phase One P65+ moves into first place in DxOMark Sensor rankings

New medium-format Phase One P65+ beats all other cameras for overall dxomark sensor performance.
RAW performance data for Hasselblad H3DII 50 also now available on dxomark.com

Paris, France – May 14, 2009 –DxO Labs announces today the publication of detailed RAW-based image quality data and DxOMark Sensor rankings on its popular http://www.dxomark.com website for two additional medium-format cameras, the Phase One P65+ and the Hasselblad H3DII 50.

With a DxOMark Sensor score of 89 points, the Phase One P65+ takes the lead in the overall DxOMark Sensor rankings. Up until now, shooting in low light has been challenging for medium-format cameras when compared to other digital cameras, but thanks to a newly-revised binning implementation (incorporated in its new “Sensor Plus” feature), the P65+’s low-light performance has helped closed the gap. Its higher Low-Light ISO score, combined with excellent scores for both Color Depth and Dynamic Range, has propelled it to the first-place slot among all cameras in the dxomark database, regardless of format.

DxO Labs is also pleased to publish RAW sensor results for another medium-format camera, the Hasselblad HD3II 50. Given its 2007 release date, its results are more in keeping with previously-tested medium-format cameras (with very good Color Depth and Dynamic Range, but more limited Low-Light ISO performance).

“We were pleased to see the P65+’s results, which clearly show that technological advances will keep medium-format cameras competitive with other kinds of digital cameras,” said Nicolas Touchard, Vice President of Marketing, DxO Labs Image Quality Evaluation. “Ultimately, such competition benefits the entire photographic community.”

The dxomark.com database is the only RAW sensor-based comparison resource on the web covering a broad range of sensor sizes and formats. As such, it is a unique resource for all advanced photographers who are looking for in-depth image quality evaluation tools.

About dxomark.com

Sponsored by DxO Labs, a company focusing on image processing technologies, http://www.dxomark.com is a free online resource that delivers key objective sensor performance metrics measured directly on the RAW image for a variety of cameras. As a result, dxomark.com makes it possible for the first time to assess the intrinsic quality of a camera before the impact of any RAW conversion and independent of its optics.

The site also features a simple scale, DxOMark Sensor, for analyzing and comparing RAW image quality. The DxOMark Sensor scale is mapped to real-world photographic scenarios such as portrait, landscape, and action photography, ensuring that the scale is relevant to photographers.

dxomark.com’s goal is to serve the imaging community, particularly the photo press. Photography journalists and experts can now complement their analyses and reviews with an objective evaluation of intrinsic camera performance, regardless of optics or processing considerations.
