Camera Bits Reaches Milestone of 35,000 Licenses Sold of Photo Mechanic™ Version 4.0+; Announces Record Sales for Latest Quarter
Celebrates Sixth Year Anniversary of Photo Mechanic 4 with Release of Version 4.6.1
Portland, Oregon—June 1, 2009—Camera Bits, Inc. (http://www.CameraBits.com), a pioneering provider of software for professional digital photographers, today announced it has surpassed the milestone of 35,000 licenses sold of its version 4.0+ Photo Mechanic™ photo browser and workflow software. The company also reported record sales of Photo Mechanic in its most recent quarter and released version 4.6.1 of Photo Mechanic on the sixth year anniversary of the availability of version 4.0.
Since its first release in 1998, Camera Bits’ Photo Mechanic has been a mainstay of professional photographers utilizing software to let them efficiently browse, caption, and manage digital images. Photo Mechanic is by far the most popular photo editing software used by educational institutions, the U.S. military, photojournalists and major newspapers and news organizations including The Associated Press, which standardized its workflow around Photo Mechanic.
“We are so proud to have earned more than 35,000 loyal users of Photo Mechanic since our original release more than 10 years ago, and very pleased to have achieved a record number of sales in our latest quarter—it is a testament to the quality, flexibility, speed and power of our software,” said Dennis Walker, founder and president/CEO of Camera Bits. “We would like to offer a heartfelt ‘thank you’ to the Camera Bits community of professional photographers, friends and fans that have contributed so much over the years in helping to make Photo Mechanic the premier software solution for any photographer with lots of images to sort, manage and edit.”
Workflow: Import, Edit, Annotate and Output with Photo Mechanic
Photo Mechanic’s powerful ingest utility enables users to edit photos while they are being imported from a memory card, or several cards simultaneously. With Photo Mechanic, users can read the images from a memory card, flatten the directory structure, apply IPTC metadata, create a backup on a separate disk and rename files – all in a single step.
Users of Photo Mechanic can quickly rotate, preview, tag, classify, crop, rename, copy, and delete photos to speed the editing process. With Photo Mechanic users can add IPTC metadata (such as caption, keywords, photographer, city, state, etc.) to photos both individually and in batches. Photo Mechanic also enables users to adjust capture dates and times, embed GPS coordinates, and extract JPEG previews from RAW photos; lock previews and pan them around together to compare details efficiently; and manually arrange photos in an arbitrary order, including across multiple folders.
Photo Mechanic makes it easy to add common IPTC/XMP metadata information to groups of photos at once. Users can utilize the IPTC Info dialog to add or update a file’s metadata; use the IPTC Stationery Pad to add metadata to a group of images at one time; use the Structured Keywords panel to streamline keyword entry; and reduce time and improve accuracy when captioning files by using the Code Replacement feature. The innovative Variables Technology of Photo Mechanic gives users the power to harness the various types of metadata, including Exif and XMP, for the purposes of sorting and organizing photos, renaming photos, and formatting text for output to print or slideshows.
With Photo Mechanic users can create web galleries, print contact sheets, transfer photos to an FTP server or upload them to an online archive, send photos to clients via email and archive “keepers” by burning them to CDs or DVDs.
“I’ve been using Photo Mechanic since the late nineties, and have yet to find another program that competes with it in speed and flexibility,” said Reed Hoffmann, VP and Director of Education and Training at Blue Pixel. Inc. “Teaching workshops around the world I have to be familiar with all the popular imaging software, and it leads the pack in these areas. I tell people that Photo Mechanic’s the hub of my digital workflow - all my photos come into my systems through it, get moved, sorted, labeled, re-named, captioned and then sent out from it. I couldn’t function nearly as efficiently without it.”
