The Raw Truth About JPEG - Choosing an Image Format

Debate continues among photographers about the pros and cons of shooting JPEG versus Raw images. Opinions vary depending on who you ask. This can be particularly confusing for new photographers trying to nail down an efficient workflow. The bottom line is that the file format you choose to capture your photographs with will have a significant impact on your workflow. Let’s take a few minutes to examine both formats!
The original JPEG file format was created in 1992 (approved by the ISO setting body in 1994) and is supported by virtually all image editing software and operating systems currently on the market today. This makes it incredibly convenient to use for consumers and professional photographers alike. A big advantage of shooting JPEG is that your camera applies all of the necessary processing adjustments prior to being saved.
